YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio Sept 27, 2010— A church community haunted by the parking-lot shooting death of an 80-year-old member is mourning the killing of another elderly parishioner minutes after leaving church.
Someone fired up to a dozen shots at Thomas Repchic, 75, as he drove from church Saturday with his 74-year-old wife, who was wounded but expected to recover. The couple had just left St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church, where Jacqueline Repchic works in the office on Saturdays.
Detectives believe the couple may have been victims of mistaken identity, Youngstown Capt. Rod Foley said. Investigators do not believe the shooting was random and think it was gang-related, but no arrests have been made.

Sept 26, 2010: Emergency personnel evacuated approximately 30 staff members for a half hour at the First United Methodist Church on Webb Ave. and Braun St. Wednesday morning after a bomb threat was phoned into the church.
Dianne Speicher, a staff member of the church, said she answered the phone and a voice said, “There’s a bomb in the building. You have 30 minutes.”
“I called 911 and then pulled the fire alarm to evacuate,” Speicher said.
Crossville Assistant Fire Chief Chris South and Crossville Police Patrolman Chad Withrow, along with Cumberland County EMS, responded to the scene.
After investigating the church grounds, South said there was no evidence of anything suspicious and no deliveries had been made to the church. Question: Is your church prepared for a bomb threat? Do you have Emergency Action Plans in place and has your staff and volunteers been trained on how to properly handle these types of emergencies? What training has your staff and volunteers received and do you conduct quarterly drills to reinforce your training and policy & procedures. If the answer to any of these questions are no, call WSSC Ministries today and we will get started on designing site specific emergency actions plans and training in dealing with all types of disasters and emergencies. It just might mean the difference between life and death!

Sept 25th, 2010: The wife of a former state’s attorney was sentenced Friday to 11 years in prison for stealing nearly $138,000 from her church and setting a house fire in a failed cover-up.
Terri L. James, 42, wept as she read from a prepared statement apologizing to the church, the homeowners and to the Ottawa firefighters whose lives she put at risk setting the fire on March 17.
The judge noted James was in a position of authority (a bookkeeper) for First Congregational United Church of Christ, and she abused that trust by stealing funds as far back as November 2004.
The judge then sentenced James to a pair of 11-year sentences, for residential arson and theft, which will be served concurrently and with day-for-day good time. He also ordered her to make restitution to the church in the amount of $137,817.06. James has until five years after her release from prison, likely in late 2015, to make restitution.
Ryan was unable to order restitution for the home, which sustained an estimated $450,000 in damage, as insurers still are assessing the damage and working out a settlement.

Two men in Georgia are suing Bishop Eddie Long in Atlanta, alleging that the powerful pastor used his influence to force them in to having sex. One of the plaintiffs, Anthony Flagg, is a 21-year-old man who alleges that some of the misconduct occurred during overnight trips to various cities:
“Long shared a bedroom and engaged in intimate sexual contact with plaintiff Flagg, including kissing, massaging, masturbating of plaintiff Flagg by defendant Long and oral sexual contact,” according to the lawsuit.
Long’s spokesman, Art Franklin, stated that “we categorically deny the allegations. It is very unfortunate that someone has taken this course of action. Our law firm will be able to respond once attorneys have had an opportunity to review the lawsuit.”
The lawsuit is seeking unspecified amounts in financial damages and accuses Long on multiple counts, including negligence, breach of fiduciary duty and so on.

Attorneys for the Rev. Donald Armstrong and the Pueblo District Attorney’s office were pleased Monday with the plea agreement in the criminal case involving the former rector of Grace and St. Stephen’s Church in Colorado Springs.
A Fourth Judicial District grand jury indicted Armstrong in May 2009 on 20 felony counts of embezzling $392,000 from Grace Church. Armstrong on Friday pled no contest to one felony count, according to El Paso County court files. Though Armstrong in his plea doesn’t admit guilt, the court views it in a legal sense as a guilty plea.
As part of the agreement, Armstrong admitted guilt to a new charge, misdemeanor theft, said Pueblo District Attorney Bill Thiebaut. A sentencing hearing on this charge will happen before the end of the year.
Armstrong’s sentence could include a fine of up to $5,000 and up to 18 months in the El Paso County Jail. Misdemeanor charges are brought for thefts between $500 and $1,000.
On the felony count, Armstrong has been placed on four-year’s probation. If violated, he will be a convicted felon and could face four to 12 years in prison.

Rev. Timothy Jackson of the Apostolic Holy Church of God, located at 437 Livernois before it was burned to the ground August 6, was arraigned on six charges of first degree criminal sexual conduct today.
He is accused of sexual assaults on a thirteen year old girl between 2009-2010 in the southwest Detroit church.
The judge of the 36th district court set bond at $50,000, and scheduled a preliminary examination for September 1. Each count of CSC 1 carries a possible sentence of life in prison.
The church was torched on August 6, one day after it was raided by investigators. The fire is believed to have been intentionally set, probably in retaliation for Rev Jackson’s alleged acts. Question: I wonder if the church performed “background” checks? Wolves are in the church! The Devil is alive and active in churches across the country. Are you prepared? Aug 30, 2010 – Police are seeking clues in the fatal shooting of a lay bishop at a Mormon church by a man who was killed in an ensuing confrontation with officers.
Clay Sannar, a 42-year-old father of six boys, was doing administrative paperwork on Sunday between services when a man came in and asked for a leader of the congregation, said church official Ralph Jordan. The man was directed to Sannar and fatally shot him, said Colleen Mestas, the police chief in Visalia, southeast of Fresno in California’s Central Valley.
Then, someone called police and identified himself as the gunman. When police arrived at the church, they confronted the man and exchanged gunfire, said Mestas.
The gunman was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at nearby hospital, Mestas said. No police officers were injured.
The man, whose identity has not been released, did not seem to know Sannar and is not a member of the church, and no one at the church recognized him, said Jordan. Police have not disclosed details about a motive.
